HERTFORDSHIRE COUNSELLOR

YOUR FIRST SESSION
After an initial brief telephone introduction, I offer a free 30-minute consultation call. This session is an opportunity for us to discuss what has led you to seek counselling at this point in your life, for me to explain how I can support you, and for us to explore whether we feel it would be helpful to work together. It’s also a chance for you to ask any questions and ensure we are a good fit.

There is no charge for this consultation, and you are under no obligation to continue or book a full session.

If we decide to move forward together, I will email a working agreement outlining our confidentiality policy (including its limits) for you to read and sign before we begin our sessions. This ensures that both of us are clear about the boundaries and expectations as we work together.

Your First Full Session

It’s completely natural to feel uncertain or a little anxious about your first counselling session. During this time, we’ll take things at your pace. We’ll review the working agreement together to ensure everything feels clear and comfortable, and begin exploring what has brought you to therapy. This is also a space to talk about any expectations, needs, or hopes you may have for our work together.
There’s no pressure to have all the answers—therapy is a process, and we’ll shape it together. I also offer regular reviews, usually every 4 to 6 weeks, to check in on how things are going and whether you feel it’s helpful to continue. My aim is to create a supportive and trusting speace where you feel heard, understood and gently supported as you move forward in whatever way feels right for you.
